Who we are
Local Heroes is an educational programme delivered by Legasee Educational Trust (registered charity no. 1145354). We work with schools to help them record and preserve personal stories for future generations.
Why you’ve been invited
You have been invited to take part as a “Local Hero” — someone whose story will be recorded by students and added to a digital archive created by their school.
What taking part involves
If you agree to take part:
- you will be interviewed by students (with teacher support)
- the interview will be filmed and/or audio recorded
- students will create an archive page about your story
How your story will be used
Your interview and related materials may be:
- stored by the school and Local Heroes
- used for educational purposes
- published on the school’s Local Heroes archive
- shared publicly online (unless you request restrictions)
We aim to preserve these stories long-term as part of a growing archive.
Your personal data
We will collect:
- your name
- your contact details (e.g. email)
This is used only to:
- manage your participation
- contact you about your interview
- ask you to review and approve your story
Your data will be stored securely and not shared beyond what is necessary for the project.
Your choices and control
You remain in control of your story. You can:
- ask for changes before publication
- request that parts are removed
- choose not to have your story published
- request restrictions on access
After your interview
You will be contacted to:
- review your interview and archive page
- confirm whether you are happy for it to be published
Nothing will be published without this final approval.
Agreement
By taking part, you confirm that:
- you understand how your interview will be recorded and used
- you are happy to take part in the Local Heroes programme
- you understand you will be asked to approve the final version before publication
